On the 15th March 1881, a public meeting was called in the small township of Eton with the intention of establishing a State School, to educate the children of Eton and the surrounding district.
On the 20th August 1883, Eton State School opened with an enrolment of fifty students.
Through the years, the school has remained on the same site and is one of the oldest schools in the Pioneer Valley. The longest period the school has ever been closed for was 29 days in 1898 due to a measles epidemic in the area.
Eton State School does not stand alone, but stands as part of a family orientated community, with strong beliefs in the role and purpose of education that the school has provided to for many students over the years.
It is evident that the community holds the school in high regards, with generation after generation of families attending for an education rich in old school values and academic results.
